The negative headlines for the Tories do not stop: the London police have arrested a Conservative MP after allegations of rape and sexual abuse.
The British media report unanimously.
The man is between 50 and 60 years old and is therefore in custody, said the Metropolitan Police.
The MP's name was not given.
Incidents were only reported years later
The alleged sexual abuse cases are said to have taken place in London between 2002 and 2009, but were only reported in early 2020.
The investigations against the deputy are still ongoing.
According to the police, he is also being investigated for possible abuse of his position of power.
The leader of the Conservative Party has instructed the MPs concerned not to enter Parliament's premises while the investigation is ongoing.
However, the accused was not initially expelled from the party.
Next scandal for Johnson's Tories
MPs from Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Tory party have repeatedly made the headlines in recent months for misconduct.
For example, the "Partygate" affair about excesses in Downing Street during the Corona lockdown made headlines.
Recently, there have been various cases of sexual misconduct by parliamentarians.
Parliament's own complaints office is currently taking action against at least 56 MPs on suspicion of sexual misconduct, including three ministers.
In addition, MP Imran Ahmad Khan resigned in April after a court found him guilty of molesting a 15-year-old.
Tory MP Neil Parish resigned after admitting to watching porn in the House of Commons.
