Washington, SANA- An official US report revealed that the size of the firearms market in the United States has increased several times during the past

Washington-Sana

An official US report revealed that the size of the firearms market in the United States has increased several times in 20 years.

And the French press agency quoted a report published by the US Department of Justice as saying that “American firearms manufacturers have produced about 140 million individual firearms during the past two decades, including 11.3 million pieces produced in the year 2020 alone.”

According to the report, the American market was not satisfied with its production, as the United States imported 71 million firearms during the same period and exported only 7.5 million pieces, which reflects the huge amount of firearms available in the country, which contributed to the escalation of armed violence, murders and suicides.

The report showed that if Americans preferred semi-automatic weapons of the type used in carrying out many mass shootings, the vast majority of them bought 9mm semi-automatic pistols, which are cheap, accurate, easy to use and similar to the weapon used by the police.

The report indicated that the US authorities are facing an increase in “stealth weapons”, which are pistols or rifles that are sold in disassembled parts and can be made at home. Unlike the firearms produced by arms factories, these weapons do not carry serial numbers, which makes tracking them almost impossible, hence their name as Selling and buying it does not require a license, as it is not sold in whole, but rather in disassembled parts, and therefore it is not considered a complete weapon.

The publication of this report comes after a weekend during which the United States witnessed two mass shootings, the first of which was carried out in Buffalo, New York, by a white supremacist youth who killed 10 citizens of African descent, while the second in Los Angeles, California, was killed and 5 wounded.

Shooting incidents in the United States, whose constitution guarantees the right to own firearms, are witnessing a steady increase, causing thousands of casualties and prompting organizations and activists to demand control of the arms trade, which is obstructed by the manufacturers' lobby.
