- The Herrschinger couple follows Roti Falk and Billy Brimble, who ran the kiosk on the only Andechs lakefront for eight years.

The kiosk Froschgartl used to be an insider tip, especially for motorcyclists.

It stands on the only part of the shore of Lake Ammer that belongs to the municipality of Andechs, which has even had a berth there since 1973.

The beach section has also been equipped with a bathing jetty for a year.

The Geltls, 64 and 65 years old, have known the Froschgartl for a long time.

Growing up in Munich, she was often at the Ammersee when she was a little girl because the family had a holiday home in Breitbrunn.

Later, the passion for motorcycles that she shares with her husband often led the couple to the Froschgartl.

They have been living in the district for 13 years, first in Seefeld and now in Herrsching.

When they found out from their predecessors that they wanted to quit, they applied straight away – and were accepted.

That was back in November.

However, since the water was turned off in winter due to the risk of frost, they could not do much.

But in the spring they started.

"We put a lot of time and money into the renovation," says Silke Geltl.

The idyllic location scores above all with its sensational view at sunset directly from the lake shore across the lake to Dießen.

During the two Corona years 2020 and 2021, the extensive beer garden has also proven itself.

Silke Geltl is already well acquainted with the work behind the counter.

She herself has experience in gastronomy and had also helped out from time to time with her predecessors.

Since Easter, she and her husband Harry have been managing the kiosk alone.

They kept the menu, they only introduced a red currywurst as a specialty.

The popular burgers from the Froschgartl - supplemented by a vegetable variant - will continue to be available.

"It's going well," says the 64-year-old happily.

Even if it was tough at first because of the persistently low temperatures.

The freshly minted hostess was only worried about the prices for the drinks.

The first price increase was in February, the second was announced for June.

Quite apart from the fact that a kiosk like the Froschgartl also relies on the frying oil that is only rarely available.

It's only a small consolation that all other restaurateurs feel the same way - but the guests keep coming.
