There will be another ice age in Wolfratshausen.

The city council has revised the decision in the committee against the event with 16:5 votes.

Wolfratshausen – Ice skaters and curling enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief: With a clear 16:5 majority, the city council decided on Tuesday evening to repeat the ice age at the old rafting station in winter 2022/2023.

This reverses the decision of the culture committee, whose 4:4 stalemate would have meant the end of the open-air event.

Deputy Mayor Günther Eibl (CSU), who chaired the meeting on behalf of Klaus Heilinglechner, spoke of a difficult decision before the debate.

In view of rising electricity prices, the city's climate protection goals and savings targets, no "standing order" can be given, but initially only a one-off commitment for the ice age.

Ice Age in Wolfratshausen: New edition decided despite climate change

Hans Schmidt (Greens) pleaded against a new edition.

“We can no longer afford not to take advantage of power generation potential and at the same time allow an ice age that will continue as winters get warmer.

35,000 kWh, i.e. electricity consumed by around ten three- to four-person households per year,” calculated the environmental officer.

Youth officer Jennifer Layton did not follow the recommendation of her group colleague.

"The Ice Age is a highlight that proves itself every year and is particularly well received by children and young people," she explained.

Helmuth Holzheu (citizens' association) agreed and described the Ice Age as a "unique selling point in the region".

Group colleague Dr.

Ulrike Krischke for manageable;

"So much is consumed at small cultural festivals." Gerlinde Berchtold (SPD), Dr.

Patrick Lechner (FDP), Josef Praller (Citizens' Association), Claudia Drexl-Weile (CSU) and Dr.

Manfred Fleischer (Wolfratshauser List) also broke a lance for the Ice Age in their speeches.

"You should keep what's going well," said Berchtold.

Criticism of the expected deficit of 50,000 euros

Ice Age opponents Manfred Menke (SPD) as well as Annette Heinloth and Peter Lobenstein (both Greens) felt they had been wrongly pilloried.

"I would have preferred a different proposal for a resolution and the examination of alternatives," said Heinloth.

Group spokesman Lobenstein doubted whether an expected deficit of around 50,000 euros would be compatible with the city's budget consolidation.

The low-cost alternative, already mentioned by Manfred Menke in the culture committee, of booking times for Wolfratshausen schoolchildren at the Geretsried ice stadium was out of the question for a majority of the city council.

In addition to Menke, Fritz buckler (SPD), Heinloth, Lobenstein and Schmidt (all Greens) voted against the ice age

Marlene Schretzenmaier, an employee of the cultural office and head of the Ice Age organization, welcomed the majority decision, also because the refrigeration units have to be ordered from a foreign company this week.

Should the corona incidence figures rise in autumn or should the power supply collapse as a result of war events, a short-term cancellation would be possible due to contractually agreed opt-out clauses.

However, Schretzenmaier does not expect that.

Nothing should stand in the way of the fifth edition of the six-week ice skating fun.
