As of today, Law No. 20 has entered into force to reorganize the criminal legal rules for information crime contained in Legislative Decree No. 17 of 2012.
The Ministry of Communications and Technology clarified on its official Facebook page that Article No. 50 of the aforementioned law, which was issued on the 18th of last month, stipulates that it shall be considered effective one month after the date of its issuance.
On the tenth of this month, the Ministry of Communications and Technology issued executive instructions for the law to combat information crime in line with the technological development and the high rate of its spread in society, protecting legal interests, regulating freedoms in the virtual world, and limiting the misuse of technical means.
The law details the penalties and fines imposed for crimes by service providers on the network and for perpetrators of information crimes. It includes an increase in the penalty in the event that the crime is committed by a public authority, in addition to tightening penalties for some crimes that have increased spread and committed through electronic means such as slander, electronic slander, crimes of infringement of modesty and crimes committed on the constitution.
