The concerned authorities have completed all their preparations to start the process of receiving and marketing the entire wheat crop from farmers, through simplified procedures and marketing incentives acceptable to farmers.

Engineer Ahmed Haidar, director of plant production at the Ministry of Agriculture, told SANA that work is being done in the specialized agencies of the Ministry of Agriculture to overcome the obstacles to increasing wheat production, while continuing to provide all support to farmers, pointing out that the plan includes improving agricultural systems to adapt to drought conditions, such as conservation agriculture, which aims to alleviate the need. The water needed for the growth of the crop by maintaining the structure of the soil and cultivating varieties with shorter growing seasons, higher tolerance to environmental conditions, and greater productivity through the General Authority for Agricultural Research.

For his part, Muhammad Al-Khalif, head of the Agricultural Affairs Office of the General Union of Farmers, indicated in a similar statement that the union worked during the previous period to achieve gains for wheat farmers by asking him to raise the marketing price, which would contribute to motivating them to hand over their crop to the Grain Corporation and encourage an increase in cultivated areas, noting that directing President Bashar al-Assad, by raising the value of marketed wheat, confirms the continuation of the process of supporting the farmer, especially in light of the directive to receive all the incoming quantities of the wheat crop to the centers and raise the percentage of crimes and impurities to 23 percent, in addition to exempting farmers from screening and transportation fees.

With the aim of easing the burdens on farmers and facilitating the marketing process, Al-Khalif said, an increase in axle loads was approved during the marketing of this season by 25% for cars transporting wheat, with all facilities for the passage of combines and transport vehicles between the administrative regions. The union is based on addressing all obstacles to the marketing process and finding urgent solutions to them by following up the process on the ground and supervising its proper progress by the members of the Executive Office.

For his part, Hafez Salem, head of the Hama Farmers Union, said that the new price is acceptable and relieves farmers of some financial burdens and encourages them to increase the cultivated areas, especially if the productivity is high and exceeds 300 kg per acre and the profit will be weak when productivity declines, pointing out that the work is focused on encouraging farmers to market the crop To the grain centers distributed in the regions through intensive meetings with them and the formation of committees to follow up the marketing process and stress the shifts by the agricultural associations and the Forest Development Authority in order to protect crops from fires.

The head of the Daraa Farmers Union, Muhammad Majdi al-Jazaery, confirmed that raising the price of wheat under the directives of the President to 1,700 Syrian pounds per kilo contributes to motivating farmers to hand over their production to state centers and increase the cultivated areas in the next season, indicating that granting an incentive bonus of 300 to 400 pounds per kilo Gram will help the farmer to secure part of the production requirements.

He added: Those in charge of the agricultural process, in parallel with the issuance of directives to raise the price of wheat marketed to state centers, took a decision to raise the crime rate to 23 percent instead of 16 percent last season, thus marketing most of the production to state centers and benefiting from bad and unfit for milling wheat in securing the need for wealth. He pointed to the need to continue to support the farmer and reduce the costs of agricultural work, especially securing the full need of fertilizers and fuels.

For his part, Azzam Darbouli, head of the Department of Plant Production in Homs cultivation, indicated in a similar statement that the harvestable areas exceed 24,462 hectares out of the total area planted with irrigated and rainfed wheat in all regions of the governorate, which amounts to 34,483 hectares. The harvested area is about 20 hectares, pointing to the presence of indicators of low productivity, especially in rainfed agriculture, as a result of the delay of rains with the beginning of the planting season and their entrapment during the supplementary irrigation period that coincides with the month of April and the flooding of areas in some areas.

Regarding the directorate's preparations for the harvest season, Darbouli said: There are about 200 harvesters distributed in all areas of Homs ready for harvest, and all their fuel needs will be provided.

For his part, Engineer Wafa Al-Masry, head of the Marketing Office of the Farmers’ Union in Homs, stated in a similar statement that the current price set for buying wheat from farmers is appropriate in comparison with production costs, noting that the Fuels Committee approved securing fuel for farmers to harvest at the subsidized price and at a rate of 5 liters to harvest one acre of wheat And 3 liters for harvesting barley, provided that the wages for harvesting wheat and barley for the combine harvesters will be determined later.

A number of farmers demanded an increase in the value of the reward granted to match the high costs of agricultural work in terms of fuel and fertilizers, while others demanded to support the requirements of the farming process and provide all the farmers’ needs, especially fertilizers and fuels, in order to reduce labor costs and achieve a rewarding financial return for the farmer.

In turn, a number of harvester owners demanded setting a fair price according to the nature of the soil and its terrain. The pricing also varies about the quality of the harvest for wheat, hay or hay with hay, in addition to providing the full need for fuel at the subsidized price.

It is noteworthy that the price of buying a kilogram of wheat from farmers was set at 1,700 Syrian pounds, with a reward of 300 pounds per kilogram delivered from safe areas, so that the price of one kilogram becomes 2000 pounds, in addition to giving a reward of 400 pounds per kilogram delivered from unsafe areas, so that the price of the kilogram A gram of 2100 pounds, and the price of a kilogram of barley is 1600 pounds, while the cultivated area of wheat reached one million and 200 thousand hectares.
