A major accident occurred on Wednesday morning on the Oberbrunn/Unterbrunn bypass.

A concrete mixer truck overturned on its side after its driver had previously performed a daring manoeuvre.

Oberbrunn/Hochstadt – According to Gauting's police chief Andreas Ruch, an "extraordinary traffic accident" occurred on Wednesday morning on the Oberbrunn/Unterbrunn bypass.

A fully loaded concrete mixer truck overturned and landed in a corn field.

Fortunately, the 44-year-old driver was only slightly injured

As Ruch reports, the driver had loaded a load of liquid concrete with his 30-ton truck from Pullach in the morning in Hochstadt.

At around 11 a.m., coming from Hochstadt, he wanted to turn left onto the state road in the direction of Gilching/Autobahn A 96.

Ruch describes what then happened as follows: "Instead of driving to the stop line on the state road and stopping there, the driver carried out an illegal and daring maneuver by, almost without significantly reducing his speed, driving in the wrong direction into the oncoming lane in the direction of Hochstadt changed, in order to then drive onto the exit lane of the state road in the direction of Hochstadt.

From there he then crossed the solid lane line of the state road to continue in the direction of Gilching.

"The 25-year-old driver of a following truck from Augsburg, who was traveling in the direction of the A 96, was able to observe the accident as it unfolded and was previously surprised at his colleague's daring manoeuvre," Ruch continued.

He immediately rendered first aid after helping the driver involved in the accident to climb out through the sunroof of the driver's cab.

Fortunately, the 44-year-old only suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Starnberg hospital for further examination.

The salvage of the concrete mixer was difficult.

A crane was required.

A special tow truck had to be called for the removal.

According to initial estimates, the resulting property damage should amount to 150,000 euros.

The state road is likely to be closed for several hours in the area.

The detour is either via Hochstadt or via Unterbrunn/Oberbrunn.

The fire brigades from Unterbrunn, Oberbrunn and Gauting are on site with around 20 emergency services to secure the scene of the accident and to secure leaking operating materials.

Some of the liquid concrete also ran out.

The extent of the resulting damage to the corn field could not be said yesterday.
