Ten million euros will flow into the district for the construction of day-care centers and schools.

Green MP Becher predicts higher costs for municipalities.

District of Freising

– 10.2 million euros in state subsidies flow into the district of Freising for the construction of day-care centers and schools.

The homeland deputies of the state parliament announced this in unison.

More or less?

The assessment varies.

"I am pleased that my commitment to the projects in the Freising district has paid off," explains Minister of State Florian Herrmann (CSU) in a press release.

The head of the state chancellery speaks of a proof of the "community-friendly state policy" of the Christian Socialists.

"Education remains the most important investment in our children's future." With this significant increase in grants, the Free State is fulfilling its responsibility for a balanced infrastructure in Bavaria.

The money comes from the municipal financial equalization of the Free State of Bavaria.

In particular, the construction and renovation of schools, school sports facilities and day-care centers are funded.

"With the funds available, the need reported for this year can be almost completely covered," Herrmann points out.

Millions for the new Steinpark school and junior high school

4.17 million euros alone will flow to the city of Freising for the new construction of the elementary and middle school at Steinpark.

Among other things, the district will receive around 1.7 million euros for the general renovation and conversion of the Karl-Meichelbeck Realschule in Freising.

Benno Zierer is pleased that the Free State is “helping the local authorities to build schools and day-care centres”.

The FW MP emphasizes that funding for municipal structural engineering measures has reached a record level of 650 million euros throughout Bavaria.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Johannes Becher, Member of Parliament for the Greens, is surprised that "Colleague Herrmann" is boasting about the subsidies, which are the "normal funds" that are granted as part of the municipal financial equalization.

"I cannot understand where his personal commitment is supposed to have benefited every individual project." The financial equalization is the result of negotiations between the state government and municipal umbrella organizations.

“Of course, this funding for construction measures at day-care centers, schools and swimming pools is good and important,” emphasizes Becher.

"At the same time, you have to know that only so-called eligible costs are financed with it." The municipalities therefore often have to make a large contribution themselves.

He is therefore promoting a new special investment program for the day-care center area.

"The state government let the last one expire and doesn't want to launch a new one either."

Green MP calls for better funding for municipalities

If everything stays as it is now, the proportion of financing for the municipalities will be correspondingly higher in the future than it has been, predicts Becher.

"And even if the financial equalization is at a high level, the range of tasks for the municipalities is increasing," says Becher.

"All in all, I therefore believe that we need better basic financial resources for the municipalities in the future.

In our region, however, things are even better for us than in other parts of Bavaria.”

The following institutions are funded:

City of Freising:

303,000 euros for the expansion and conversion of the St. Lantbert elementary school, 4.17 million euros for the new construction of the elementary and middle school at Steinpark with sports facilities, 200,000 euros for the new construction of a school swimming pool.
