The 7-year-old girl and other children drowned while playing in the swimming pool at Diqin Bay, Ma On Shan. The lifeguard of the swimming pool told the police that there were two people on duty at the time, but the police checked the CCTV and found that there was only one lifeguard.
One of the lifeguards had earlier admitted to misleading police officers. The case was sentenced today (18th) in the Shatin Court. Acting Chief Magistrate Cheung Chi Wai said that the defendant's social service order report indicated that he had introspected and had remorse, and he also considered the defendant's Pleaded guilty and had no criminal record, and finally adopted the recommendation to sentence the defendant to a social service order of 160 hours.

The girl was found at the bottom of the pool
The case refers to the 7-year-old girl who drowned. On the afternoon of the same day, she and her family went to visit friends in Diqin Bay. The girl and four other children were playing in the shallow area of the swimming pool of the clubhouse.
At 6:15 p.m., the girl's mother could not find her daughter. A male swimmer found the girl at the bottom of the pool. When she was rescued, she was unconscious. After being sent to the hospital for rescue, she died. The autopsy report stated that the girl died of drowning.
Police investigation finds suspected confession
During the police investigation, Zhu told the police that he was there at the time, and another lifeguard was checking in the pump room, and he later recorded the same statement.
However, the police checked the CCTV and found that another lifeguard was not present.
Zhu was arrested on November 4 of the same year and admitted that between 5 and 6:30 pm that day, he was the only one on duty. After the girl drowned, another lifeguard appeared and admitted that he had lied to the police.
The police checked the mobile phones of Zhu and two other people, and found that the three were involved in "confessions" on Whatsapp.
Two other defendants plead guilty next month
Two other defendants in the same case: Dai Xiang (20 years old, lifeguard); and Mo Zhaoyi (28 years old, swimming pool service contractor), were also charged with one count of knowingly misleading a police officer. Defense on the 8th.
