The Deputy Minister of Electricity, Dr. Sinjar Tohme, confirmed that exempting some lines from rationing to secure electricity for agricultural projects and farmers with the aim of preserving agricultural crops affects the insurance of household electricity.
Tohme explained in a statement published by the ministry's official page on the social networking site (Facebook) that one of the biggest challenges facing the electricity sector is the distribution, rehabilitation and extension of electrical networks to all liberated areas and their development, as they require large funding that is not currently available, indicating that government projects suffer from difficulties. In importing, financing and providing foreign exchange due to economic sanctions.
Regarding the electric power line project through Syria to Lebanon, Tohme pointed out that Syria has fulfilled all its obligations regarding this matter and the project is ready in terms of infrastructure, but the approval to start operating it is linked to the Lebanese side.
Regarding the first conference for investment in renewable energies and electricity, which was held recently in Damascus, Tohme stressed that the dialogue with investors was serious by trying to find investment solutions in the electricity sector by taking advantage of renewable energies that are characterized by their permanent availability, but the problem lies in the lack of capital to establish power stations in all its types.
