The former vice chancellor of Nicaragua and director of the Renovating Democratic Union (Unamos), Víctor Hugo Tinoco, was transferred to his home under house arrest, according to the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh), through of their social networks.

"The Cenidh confirms that the political prisoner Víctor Hugo Tinoco has changed his precautionary measure from preventive detention to house arrest, he is at home with some family members, all incommunicado."

In another message, the Cenidh asked the authorities of the National Penitentiary System to clarify Tinoco's health situation, which was a matter of concern for his relatives, who had warned of the serious risk his life was running in the prison of the Directorate of Judicial Assistance, known as El Chipote.

"We demand that they allow him to receive specialized medical attention, full family contact and that he be held in solitary confinement," said Cenidh.

So far, the Public Ministry has not officially reported on the causes of the change in the Tinoco prison regime and the Judiciary has not published anything about the measure either.

The judges do not respond to questions from independent media.

On February 11, the Nicaraguan Justice found Tinoco guilty of the crime of conspiracy to undermine national integrity, and he was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Police detained the former vice chancellor on June 14, 2021 at a shopping mall.

According to the police statement, Tinoco was arrested for investigation of alleged "acts that undermine independence, sovereignty and self-determination, incite foreign interference in internal affairs, request military interventions, organize with financing from foreign powers to carry out acts of terrorism and destabilization, propose and manage economic, commercial blockades and financial operations against the country".
