European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni admitted that the European Union countries have not yet been able to agree on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia over its military operation in Ukraine.

"We urgently and unanimously adopted five packages of sanctions, but the sixth package is still pending," the Russian TASS news agency quoted Gentiloni as saying in a television interview today.

And the European Union Commissioner for Security and Foreign Policy Josep Borrell confirmed last Monday that the bloc's foreign ministers had not yet been able to reach an agreement regarding the new sanctions package.

According to Western press reports, the biggest stumbling block in discussions in this regard within the European Union lies in Hungary's position rejecting plans to impose a ban on the import of Russian oil.
