It would be a feat and a valuable point scored against Russia as it continues its war in Ukraine.
The Commission presented Wednesday RePowerEU, the plan which aims to wean the EU from all Russian fossil fuels by 2027 and, before that, to reduce gas imports by two thirds this year.
As economies begin to slow down, Ursula von der Leyen wanted to be reassuring.
RePowerEU will help us save more energy, accelerate the phase-out of fossil fuels and, above all, launch investments on a new scale”,
said the President of the Commission.
Concretely, this plan has three pillars: a faster rise in power of renewables, the diversification of gas supplies and an incentive to save energy.
