Peiting – Last week there were invitations to the “open construction office” on the construction site of the new Marienheim in Peiting.

Architect, facility manager, landscape architect and the AWO informed interested parties about the construction progress and the planning.

Around 20 interested parties followed the invitation last Thursday to Bühlachstraße, where they were welcomed by Cornelia Emili, Chairwoman of the Board of AWO Oberbayern.

The head of the Marienheim, Jörg Reiprich, then explained the concept of the closed socio-therapeutic facility.

According to Reiprich, people who endanger themselves due to mental illnesses are admitted there.

Some also have an addiction, which is called a double diagnosis.

“Yes, it is a gated facility.

But above all, it should protect the sick residents from external pressure and also from themselves,” explained the facility manager.

Inquiries from residents come from all over Germany, but we try to select as regionally as possible.

"The Marienheim is part of Peiting, not a black box," he emphasized.

Marienheim in Peiting: "Bringing the outside in"

The construction of such a facility also presented architect Peter Flickinger (Höss Amberg + Partner Architekten) with challenges.

For example, certain areas must be specially secured.

"Nevertheless, we want to bring the outside in," explained the architect during a tour.

For example, the inner courtyards are to be designed in such a way that residents can move around freely, explains Flickinger.

This requires, among other things, a special electronic locking system.

Another challenge for the architect was the rather steep topography of the site. "Half of the basement is then in the mountain," says Flickinger.

There will be space for the canteen kitchen as well as multi-purpose and therapy rooms.

In the two upper floors, the residents will be accommodated in three groups on each floor – there will then be room for 66 in total.

Above all, the architect emphasized the view from these two floors over Peiting, which can now be guessed at.

Groundbreaking was in November.

In terms of time, they are on schedule, and the current problem with building materials has been "managed quite well," says Flickinger.

With water you have “no problems”.

Nevertheless, due to the past heavy rain events, a so-called WU construction (WU = impermeable to water) was used.

The water is also drained off with the help of two trenches.

Flickinger expects the roof truss to be erected in September or October of this year.

In autumn they want to repeat the open site office again.

Then the work for landscape architect Mechthild von Puttkammer (Terrabiota) really begins.

Your task will be to integrate the newly created building into a natural environment.

"The building should lie loosely on the slope, few retaining walls should be visible and people should be able to find a garden," von Puttkammer summarized.
