Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, discussed this morning with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs Joyce Misoya and her accompanying delegation, the role of the United Nations in the humanitarian response to the situation in Syria, the activities carried out by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) and international organizations working in humanitarian affairs and various aspects of Humanitarian work carried out by the United Nations and its agencies in Syria.

During the meeting, Minister Miqdad expressed his disapproval of the politicization of humanitarian aid by Western countries in pursuit of political goals, stressing the importance of adherence to the principles of humanitarian work in Syria and commitment to neutrality and independence, which contributes to securing basic services and delivering aid to its actual beneficiaries from inside Syria within the framework of full respect for Syria's sovereignty. and territorial integrity and integrity in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions.

Minister Miqdad spoke about the inhumane effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and its Western allies on the Syrian people, stressing the need for the United Nations to exert its efforts to put an end to these measures, which contradict the Charter of the United Nations and international law.

He pointed out that these measures are not only against the Syrian government's efforts to secure medicines, medical equipment, water and basic services, but are directed against the Syrian people, whose suffering has increased as a result of these immoral policies that contradict international law and the Charter of the United Nations, as they affect the performance of the United Nations' humanitarian tasks. In syria.

For her part, Misoya affirmed her interest in securing the necessary funding for humanitarian work in Syria, and considered that Syria is among the priorities of humanitarian work in the United Nations. She thanked the Syrian government for the facilities it provides for the success of the work of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, adding that she is looking forward to improving work mechanisms, which leads to strengthening cooperation. and coordination in all these areas.

She indicated that her visit to Syria comes within the framework of her keenness to closely review the relief efforts and response carried out by the United Nations there and to reach conclusions based on facts and facts with the aim of developing a realistic vision for the needs of the Syrian people.

Misoya affirmed her readiness to discuss the difficulties facing the work of humanitarian organizations in Syria with the Syrian government, in order to reach a common vision to overcome the obstacles that hinder humanitarian work in Syria and distance it from political considerations.
