Netivot residents condemn the threat of a murder sent to the mother of one of the organizers of the city's Pride Parade - but most still oppose the parade.

Zvika Alon, a resident of the city, stated that "violence has no place in the city, the residents live in harmony, the ultra-Orthodox and the secular, veteran immigrants."

However, he claimed, "the parade in Netivot changes the status of the line that has existed in the city for more than 50 years."

"I have members from the home community that I respect and appreciate," Alon continued, "but there are many communities in the city and most of the residents oppose the march," he said. "We hope the peace will return to the city." "Do not feel that you have lost."

There are also residents who support the holding of the Pride Parade in the city.

"This is not an event of a parade, but an event of pride and tolerance in discourse circles," explained Nofar Zohar, a resident of Netivot and one of the organizers of the pride event in the city.

She joined in condemning the threats, "Laying the bullet is a threat to the life of the mother of one of the organizers and an attempt to silence opinions that to my delight fails."

She said that the organizers of the event had a meeting with the mayor, "which was not successful for us," after which they decided to hold discussion circles.

"We condemn all forms of violence and invite everyone to a conversation and dialogue to get to know us a little differently," she said.

The mayor of Netivot, Yehiel Zohar, met with community representatives in the city and tried to convince them not to hold the parade, "if only for the desire of all of us to maintain the status quo that has existed in the city for many years and to prevent hurting large community feelings in the city."

"

He further stated that "the Municipality of Netivot strongly condemns any manifestation of violence of any kind against any person and community wherever they are."

The mayor called on Netivot residents to "be patient and restrained and maintain Netivot's character as a city that has for many years maintained tolerance and mutual respect between all sections of the population. We all have a duty to show zero tolerance for violence of any kind," he concluded.
