Großweil - The migration of fish and invertebrates in the Loisach near Großweil was previously impeded by an old ramp.
Since January 2022, the Oberau river control center has restored free passage for aquatic life.
A new, natural bottom ramp now overcomes the height difference of one meter over a length of around 50 m. Both small fish such as the Koppe and the Huchen, which grows over a meter and only occurs in the Danube region, can now overcome the ramp.
This is an important aspect in order to achieve the environmental goals according to the EC Water Framework Directive in the Loisach above the Kochelsee.
Another old ramp, a few hundred meters above, is to be made passable for fish next winter, if the conditions for construction are good.
But not only the obstacle to migration itself was removed: At the same time, the water structure of the Loisach was redesigned in the vicinity of the ramp by the water management office and the Loisach was upgraded as a living space.
Large stones lead to a better flow pattern and a better variation in width and depth of the Loisach.
Deadwood brought in offers additional protection for fish.
Further measures to improve the habitat are to follow across the entire area above Lake Kochel.
But not only the underwater world benefits from the measure: Scientific studies show that a near-natural body of water has a positive effect on human health.
