The curtain was unveiled today on the sidelines of the Tehran International Book Fair for two books translated into Persian written by Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, Special Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, one entitled (Ten Years with Hafez Al-Assad 1990/2000) and the second entitled (The Edge of the Abyss, a Document of a Homeland).
In a speech during the ceremony, Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Dr. Shafiq Diop said, “The two books translated into Persian (Ramin Hossein Abadian) and published by the Iranian Culture and Press Foundation are important because they document two very pivotal stages in the modern and contemporary history of Syria.
Ambassador Diop stressed the importance of extensive and intensive participation in book fairs and other cultural events held in the two countries and the importance of strengthening cultural and media cooperation between Syria and Iran to rise to the level of political and strategic relations.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Syrian Embassy in Tehran, the head of the Arab Writers Union, Dr. Muhammad al-Hourani, the head of the Syrian Publishers Union, Haitham Hafez, and a number of Iranian officials, writers and intellectuals.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, Ambassador Diop met with Iranian Minister of Health Bahram Ain Allah and discussed with him bilateral cooperation in the medical and treatment fields and areas of common interest.
Ambassador Diop also met the Assistant Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance and Head of the Book Fair, Yasser Ahmed Wend, and they discussed ways of bilateral cooperation in the field of printing and publishing books in various disciplines.
The activities of the Tehran International Book Fair in its thirty-third session began on the tenth of this month.
