Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the besieged Ukrainian militants exited the Azovstal plant after they surrendered and laid down their weapons, and that this had nothing to do with negotiations with Ukraine.
The TASS news agency quoted Peskov as telling reporters today: The exit of the militants from Azovstal means that they surrender, and there are no other explanations.
On the impact of the surrender of the Ukrainian militants in the Azovstal factory on the negotiations with Ukraine, Peskov said: There is no progress in the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations, and there is a complete lack of desire on the part of the Ukrainian negotiators to continue this process.. Its resumption cannot be linked to the surrender of the Ukrainian army in Azovstal.
And 694 of the militants of the Nazi Azov Battalion and the surrounded Ukrainian soldiers surrendered at the Zovstal factory in Mariupol.
On the other hand, Peskov indicated that European buyers will have to pay more money or search for alternative sources in the event the European Union imposes additional taxes on gas supplies from Russia.
Commenting on Washington's proposal to impose additional taxes on Russian gas destined for Europe, Peskov said that this is a matter of economic feasibility, stressing that buyers should pay more money or look for alternative sources.
And US Treasury officials announced yesterday Washington's intention to propose imposing additional taxes on Russian gas supplies to the European Union at the G7 finance ministers meeting to be held later this week.
