The National Police has opened an investigation in Almería after a man allegedly killed his mother and later died after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The events are being investigated as an episode of domestic violence and occurred shortly after three in the morning on Wednesday in the house located at number 13 Almedina Street, in the historic center of the Almeria capital, whose door remains sealed. .

According to police sources, there was no prior complaint among the relatives.

The bodies have been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Almería for autopsy.

Some neighbors alerted the National Police after hearing several screams and noises in the house where the alleged murderer, Juan Miguel, 33, and his mother, Juana, 68, lived. When the first police patrols arrived at the house They found the deceased woman in the living room with signs of having suffered blows with a blunt object.

At that time, his son suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and, although he was treated by the health services displaced to the area, they could not do anything to save his life.

Group IV of the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Almería police station has taken charge of the investigation.

After the first analyzes of the bodies of the deceased, police sources have confirmed that it was an episode of domestic violence and that the man died after a cardiorespiratory arrest.

The same sources have indicated that there were no previous complaints of discussions or aggressions in the family home among its members and that the investigation remains open.

It was not the first time that police officers visited this family home, located at the foot of the Alcazaba of Almería.

According to EFE, several police officers had gone to the building just a few hours before the events occurred with the aim of "mediating a problem."

Neighbors in the area have assured that Juan Miguel was a waiter and that he had had problems with alcohol.

They also add that he had gone through a detoxification center, but that he abandoned it after the death of a friend.

Ana García, a neighbor who lives across the street from the home where the crime took place, reports that the man lived with his mother after separating from his wife.

The mayor of Almería, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, has participated this morning in a minute of silence in front of the doors of the town hall.
