Reduction of lanes, revegetation... To transform the ring road, Anne Hidalgo recycles old advertisements

What if the urban highway that encircles the capital became a “green belt”?

This is in any case the wish carried by Anne Hidalgo.

This Wednesday morning, during a press conference at the Climate Academy (IVe), the socialist mayor clarified the avenues envisaged to transform this 35 km ring, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.

"A gradual change to improve the quality of life of the 500,000 inhabitants who live on both sides and to lower the levels of noise and atmospheric pollution" which should begin by 2024 to lead, six years later, to " an urban boulevard”.

A decree has already formalized the establishment of an "Olympic route" dedicated to official transport, the media and public transport during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Ile-de-France region wants "a national debate"

A measure that the City then wishes to perpetuate by reserving one of the 4 lanes for carpooling, buses and taxis.

The elected officials intend to go even further by 2030 by going from 2x4 to 2x3 lanes.

A shrinking project for which the Ile-de-France region led by Valérie Pécresse (LR) has just announced that it would "seize the National Commission for Public Debate to organize a national debate".

In 2021, the community specifies that it had launched a consultation “during which 90% of Ile-de-France residents declared themselves opposed to this measure”.

Another challenge over the next two years: the transformation of 22 existing Paris gates.

Four have already been completed and 5 (Clichy, la Chapelle, Brancion, Maillot and Dauphine) will be within two years.

The revegetation will also intensify, with the planting of 50,000 new trees by 2024 and the greening of the 10 ha gained thanks to the removal of the tracks.

A press conference “for nothing”

Announcements that arouse a shrug from Fatoumata Koné.

“There is nothing new since the first report of 2019, slips the leader of the environmental group of Paris.

The only noteworthy news: the delivery of the white paper by Apur (Parisian urban planning workshop), which brings together the proposals drawn up following the 5 workshops conducted on the future of the ring road, in which the various stakeholders took part.

“It may be a way of turning a non-event into an event”, wonders the elected ecologist, who regrets on the other hand that the lowering of the speed to 50 km / h was not addressed.

In the corridors of the Hôtel de Ville, this press conference would also cause a few teeth to cringe.

“It's starting to groan, we breathe on condition of anonymity.

Anne Hidalgo summoned mayors at the last minute for nothing.

“ Fatoumata Koné, she especially hopes that the schedule of transformation of the device “will accelerate”.
