Seventy-year-old woman drowned in public swimming pool, 4 lifeguards and 2 died of an accident on the day of abdominal pain and dizziness

The 70-year-old woman went to the Kwun Tong swimming pool and collided with a swimmer in the pool. 15 minutes later, other swimmers found her unconscious at the bottom of the pool. She was hospitalized for 10 days and died.

The Coroner's Court conducted an inquest into the old woman's death earlier, and the hearing revealed that four lifeguards were present at the time of the incident, but apart from the two lifeguards on the shift platform, the two lifeguards in charge of inspection suffered from abdominal pain and Dizziness and working in the toilet or under the stage, the lifeguard on the stage is also known as the blind spot on the stage.

Coroner Huang Weiquan today (18th) was very surprised that the lifeguards did not find anyone drowning in 15 minutes, criticized them for not fully performing their duties, and ruled that the old woman died of an accident.

The deceased, Cai Qincai (72), drowned in a Kwun Tong swimming pool on July 16, 2017, and was sent to the hospital for hospitalization until he died on the 25th of the same month.

Cai's autopsy report stated that Cai died because of subarachnoid hemorrhage, adult respiratory distress syndrome and bronchopneumonia. It is believed that the meningeal hemorrhage did not involve external trauma.

The daughter of the deceased Cai Qincai, Wu Lingling, said that her mother's health had never been a problem.

Cai went to the swimming pool with her granddaughter that day

Cai's daughter, Wu Lingling, said earlier that Cai had no major health problems during her lifetime, and would accompany her disabled to follow-up visits on a regular basis.

Cai's granddaughter Yan Juanjuan pointed out that Cai is not familiar with water skills, but she walks smoothly in the pool on weekdays, and she is in the same spirit that day. Gathered hours later, and later learned that Cai Yushi was sent to the hospital.

Two lifeguards patrolling the pool, one with dizziness and one with stomach pain

There were four lifeguards on duty in the training pool that day, two of whom were stationed at two shift stations, and the other two patrolled by the pool.

However, at the time of the incident, none of the four found Cai sinking to the bottom.

During the half hour of the four people on duty, among the two people in charge of patrolling the pool, one of them said that he went to the toilet for more than half an hour because of stomach pain, and the other said that he only stood under the stage and worked because of dizziness.

One of the two lifeguards on the shift platform said that the closer the shift platform was, the more "blind spots" they had, and they had to bend down to see.

The CCTV footage of the swimming pool shows that Cai collided with a swimmer that day, and then sank to the bottom of the water, and was pushed to the edge of the pool by the swimmer after 15 minutes.
