With the start of the outdoor pool season, Rhineland-Palatinate will continue the "Children learn to swim" program that started in 2021.
The state is supporting beginner swimming courses, pool costs and the training of swimming teachers with a total of 120,000 euros this year, as the Ministry of Sport announced on Wednesday.
The funding program for clubs is implemented by the State Sports Association and the three regional sports associations of Rhineland, Rheinhessen and Palatinate.
Mainz – The corona pandemic has further exacerbated the problem of poor swimming skills, especially among small children, explained Sports Minister Roger Lewentz (SPD) with a view to temporarily closed swimming pools and canceled courses.
This is where the swimming program begins.
Regular swimming is "an elementary cultural technique that opens up access to the experience of water, to various sports, to self-protection and to opportunities for participation," added the President of the State Sports Association, Wolfgang Bärnwick.
