Almost a year after Shimon Alkabetz left the station and Galit Altstein was appointed temporary deputy commander, an announcement was published this morning (Wednesday) to locate the next station commander.
Last week, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz, after criticizing the nature of Altstein's appointment, announced the establishment of a search committee.
The committee is headed by Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Abulafia, and its members are retired Judge Maj. Gen. (Res.) Ilan Schiff;
Adv. Dr. Zohar Kadmon, former chairman of News 10's board of directors; and head of the ACA, Maj. Gen.
According to Gantz's announcement, the committee will receive proposals by June 9 and after examining the candidates will recommend to Gantz the identity of the appropriate candidate.
As assessed in Walla!
Brenze already with the appointment of Altstein, the intention of the ministry was to keep her in office until her permanent appointment, and it seems that the exposure about the fact that she did not serve in the army at all, apparently for convenience, did not change the plans.
In addition, similar to the standard set in the previous locating committees, this time too they do not require any experience in managing a radio station or in the radio at all.

As you may recall, at the end of December 2021, about six months late, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz announced for the first time this week that he would send a search committee to the next IDF wave commander. On the subject, she wrote to the Minister of Defense and the Attorney General, demanding the establishment of an orderly locating committee and the appointment of a permanent commander to the station.
Since then, in fact, the Ministry of Defense has not taken any steps on the issue, neither in appointing committee members nor in setting a realistic timetable, until last week.
As we estimated here already with the appointment, Ganz realized that he would not be able to close the station, and so - within six months he managed to turn the idea of the "dramatic (and hermetic) closure he solemnly announced, into" taking the station outside the Ministry of Defense ", and from there to" Work plan ", then to" preferred option "and then only to" option "- until it was finally decided to archive the idea.
As you may recall, although she was defined as a deputy, Altstein managed to make quite a few changes and reforms, some of which were criticized by the right.
She shortened Yaakov Bardugo's program, then ousted him from the strip (while offering a replacement strip, and a much lower dose of appearances), and it was decided to end the position of head of the newsroom, Amir Ivgi.
At the same time, the work of "As of This Morning" presenter, Yishai Shenrav, was stopped - another strip that is considered strategic for the station, and it was replaced by Tali Moreno and Sefi Ovadia.
