The American newspaper, The Washington Post, revealed the existence of new divisions and differences in the ranks of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) over the expansion of the alliance's military presence in Eastern Europe and being drawn more behind the allegations of the Russian threat.

The newspaper pointed out that differences among the European allies, members of NATO, are growing over the deployment of new forces in Eastern Europe and how to build the alliance’s military presence there under the pretext of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, noting that the alliance countries assess the possible consequences of the Russian operation differently, as the Baltic states (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia). In addition to Poland, it demands a significant expansion of the military alliance's presence on its territory and the provision of modern weapons and air defense systems, while other members, including Italy and France, question the allegations that promote the theory of the existence of a (Russian threat) to NATO countries.

The newspaper pointed out that the Baltic states submitted a joint secret proposal to deploy teams of 20,000 soldiers each on the pretext of an alleged Russian threat, but other countries fear that moving such important forces to Eastern Europe would be very costly and would weaken their military capabilities in other parts of the world.

The newspaper indicated that many NATO countries see the deployment of a large military force in Eastern Europe on a permanent basis as costly and inconvenient, and these countries fear that the alliance will turn its back on the other threats it has focused on in recent years, including terrorism and illegal immigration across the Mediterranean The Mediterranean and these issues constitute the greatest source of concern for countries such as Spain and Italy, which are still far from Russia but close to North Africa.

And since last February, differences between NATO members over the Ukraine crisis and the Russian special operation in it began to surface. Despite the public US-Western consensus to pump more weapons and equipment to support the Kyiv regime and its Nazi battalions, divisions over the management of the next stage of the Ukrainian crisis have emerged among the alliance countries. Some of them, such as the Baltic states and Poland, insist on severing ties with Moscow, while others, including France and Germany, want to keep the channels of communication open.
