If you order an electric car from Volkswagen now, you have to put up with long waiting times.

This is not good news for buyers who are speculating on the high subsidies for e-cars.

Wolfsburg/Munich - Sales of e-cars are booming.

Many manufacturers can hardly keep up with production.

However, this is less due to the popularity of the Stromer, rather Volkswagen and Co. are causing global supply chains difficulties that are disrupting production.

On the one hand, there are still problems due to corona restrictions and the resulting lack of chips in Asia.

In addition, a lack of supplies for cable harnesses due to the Ukraine war means that VW, BMW and other manufacturers have had to interrupt production and apply for short-time work.

As the VW Group recently announced, customers who order a new car in 2022 can no longer expect delivery in the current year.

Delivery not until 2023 - Subsidiary brands also affected

This does not only apply to electric cars from the VW brand.

The group brands Audi, Porsche, Seat and Skoda are also affected.

"In Europe and the United States, our electric vehicles are practically sold out," CEO Herbert Diess told the

Financial Times

.

As the VW boss explained, just under 300,000 orders still had to be processed for Western Europe alone.

The reduced production in connection with an increased demand seems to be the problem why it is necessary to wait so long when buying an e-car.

At least that's a problem for customers, because things are going great for Volkswagen: In the first quarter of 2022, despite global crises, the group made almost twice as much profit as in the previous year:

VW electric cars: Anyone who orders an electric car now faces a cost problem

It is now known that new car buyers often have to wait longer for delivery.

What makes the situation unpredictable for VW customers: there are signs of a change in the environmental bonus for the coming year - and that could make buying a car thousands of euros more expensive.

The date of approval is important for the granting of the environmental premium.

According to reports, a lower federal share of the environmental bonus is currently being considered, it is currently 6000 euros.

If there were less money from the state, that would drive up the purchase price of the already expensive electric cars.
