After 22 years, the Wackersberger music band is playing again in the Arzbach gymnasium.

Not only the sports hall is new, but also the conductor.

Arzbach

– After the first endurance tests as a training and competition venue, the new Arzbach sports hall on Kalkofenstraße has now passed its test as a concert hall with flying colors.

22 years ago, the Wackersberg music band played for the last time in the former gymnasium for a spring concert.

New sports hall also impresses as a concert hall

Now there was another premiere when he returned: Thomas Heimgreiter conducted the band for the first time at a concert, Thomas Hölzl jun.

after almost ten years as a conductor.

Board member Sepp Wasensteiner thanked Hölzl, who continues to belong to the band, for his always dedicated work.

Then the outgoing director conducted the "Astronaut March" by Josef Ullrich.

For the same piece he had raised the baton at the beginning of his activity.

However, the evening began with “Carpe Diem”, a lively concert march by Alexander Pfluger.

And it was already evident that the hall offers the best acoustic conditions.

The moderation was taken over by members of the band, who also introduced each individual musician.

The clarinetists Xaver Heimgreiter senior, Anton Probst, Xaver Heimgreiter junior.

and Benedikt Kloiber immediately gave a sample of their musical ability with “A Wood Story”.

Martin März did the same as his comrades in the "Flugelhorn Serenade".

March convinced as a soloist in the approach, through security and almost unmistakable sound.

Homecoming new conductor

Benedikt Kloiber announced the “RollOn-Polka”: “We play it for our music mate and my best friend Thomas Müller, who has been in a wheelchair since an accident.” RollOn Austria is an initiative that supports people with disabilities.

Thomas Hölzl opened the second part as a soloist in the march “DerFavorittrommler”, before his uncle Walter Hölzl elicited a storm of applause from the audience with the solo polka for tuba “Der Kellermeister”.

Christoph Wasensteiner and Thomas Heimgreiter harmonized in the "Polka for two", a solo polka for tenor and flugelhorn.

Finally, the potpourri “Tango Souvenirs” took us back to the past.

Some visitors were caught humming along to "You black gypsy", "In a small pastry shop" or "You're lucky with the women...".

It ended with no less well-known melodies by Gilbert O'Sullivan such as "Get Down" and "Clair".

Traditionally, the official part ended with the “Wackersberger Schützenmarsch”.

But of course there were encores for the loyal audience.

There was even a group from France among the listeners.

For more than 30 years they have been present at the concert of the Wackersberg Music Band almost every year.
