During an interactive tour especially for children, five to nine-year-olds are not only told the story of the "witch girl Hagasusa", they also learn exciting things about the city.

Schongau – What games did children play in the Middle Ages?

Which herbs grow in the Schongau monastery courtyard and what is the city wall all about?

Children get to the bottom of these questions on a special city tour together with Ursula Heitmeier, the former principal of the Staufer elementary school, and Kornelia Funke.

A picture book about the eleven-year-old witch Hagasusa serves as the basis.

"She lives outside of the city in the forest and now wants to get to know the big city," Funke summarizes the story that is told during the tour.

Hagasusa's aunt lives in the Kassel Tower, and the adults are skeptical about her.

The witch girl gets along best with the children, adds Heitmeier.

The two city guides don't want to reveal too much just yet, after all, it's supposed to remain exciting.

Games at Marienplatz

The owl Wölwa in the form of a cuddly toy accompanies the children on their approximately one-hour journey through the city.

At Marienplatz, people jump rope, play with hoops and balls, and there is a marble for every child.

It is important to the two city guides that it is interactive and that the little ones are kept happy.

The children who take part in the Hagasusa tour are usually between the ages of five and nine.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.)

The tour with the little witch has been on the program for over ten years, but many people don't even know about it, say Ursula Heitmeier and Kornelia Funke.

Above all, that the tour can be booked at any time, not only as part of the holiday program.

For example, individually for children's birthday parties or tourists.

Individual children are just as welcome to register as whole kindergarten groups or elementary school classes, says Heitmeier.

If there are certain (historical) topics that are currently being covered and that could fit the tour, we will be happy to coordinate them with you.

The former headmistress knows that in the second grade, for example, a vegetable soup is cooked.

On this occasion, the herbs that grow in Schongau could be particularly discussed during the city tour.

Additional guided tour for older children

There is also a lot to learn for adults who accompany their children on a guided tour.

We are also happy to answer questions on this tour - but of course the little ones remain the primary contact.

There are also offers for slightly older children.

Kornelia Funke takes around ten to fourteen year olds on a “philistine tour”.

And for adults there is of course also a comprehensive program with different focal points.
