Bush's speech

Former United States President George W. Bush

The 75-year-old Bush was caught again yesterday (Wednesday) in a very Freudian and embarrassing utterance when he compared Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zalansky to British World War II leader Winston Churchill and himself to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The 41st president spoke at the Bush Library complex at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and also referred to Putin, the horrors of war - and the Russian attack on Ukraine - but was confused, as usual.

"The result of the lack of brakes and balances in Russia, and the decision of one man to launch a blatantly unjustified and cruel invasion of Iraq," he said before realizing his mistake and corrected, "I mean Ukraine," he added.

Bush attributed the mistake to his older age and murmured quietly, "Iraq too," adding "Oh well, 75."

Bush also said that "the Russian election is fake" and that political opponents are eliminated.

"The elections in Russia are addictive in advance," he noted.

"Political opponents are imprisoned or eliminated so that they cannot participate in the election process."

"21st Century Churchill"

Bush was president of the United States as the combined terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. In the years that followed, he sent American forces to Afghanistan and Iraq to wage long and costly wars that claimed many lives.

Strong criticism was leveled at him for the decision to invade Iraq based on misinformation.

Earlier in his speech he called Zalansky a "cool little man" and "21st Century Churchill."

Half a year ago, on the 20th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attack, Bush likened the riots on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021 to terrorists attacking the United States.

"There is accumulating evidence that the dangers to our country come not only from outside borders but also from within. There is not much resemblance between violent extremists from outside and domestic violence, but their hostility to pluralism, indifference to human life, determination to defile national symbols, are descendants of that evil spirit."
