The number of academic institutions that have submitted reports of sexual harassment within their walls has increased this year compared to previous years.

142 of the 152 academic institutions in the country submitted a report to the Conference on Gender Equality of the Conference as required.

For comparison, in the last school year (1971), 121 reports were submitted. Three years ago, only 106 reports were submitted, and in 2009/10, six years ago, only 65 reports were submitted from the academic institutions.

The committee's chairman, MK Aida Toma-Suleiman, welcomed the increase in the number of reports, but also added reservations: "Many institutions have submitted reports, but much work remains to be done. Educational institutions that did not report harassment, Thousands raise difficult questions. "

According to Thomas Suleiman, the tasks currently facing the committee and academic institutions are to ensure that there are enough supervisors across a wide geographical spread, to ensure that male and female students have adequate access to them, and to increase student involvement in procedures so that they are as transparent as possible.

In all the institutions that submitted reports, 298 inquiries were registered to the commissioners on the subject of sexual harassment, including 215 official complaints, and the rest were rumors and anonymous complaints.

93 institutions reported no complaints at all, and 14 institutions reported only one complaint.

Thomas-Sliman recommended examining the manner in which these institutions operate, as she said the lack of complaints could indicate a problem with accessibility or awareness of the issue.

The committee noted that Tel Aviv University, which has 29,596 male and female students, has only two responsibilities.

Ben-Gurion University, which has 19,966 students, also has two responsibilities.

The committee recommended significantly increasing the number of responsibilities, according to the number of learners, so that the ratio would be one responsibility per 1,000 students.

"Completed proceedings not reported"

Tel Aviv University has chosen to publish the manner in which complaints were filed.

In one case, a student complained of sexual harassment by an overseas researcher outside the campus. Following the treatment, the researcher was fired. Formerly on social networks it was decided that the university is not a party to social networks, and does not monitor what happens in them. Regarding some complaints it was decided that they "do not amount to sexual harassment"

. The association decided that the song would no longer be heard at events, and following a student's complaint about inappropriate clothing in a common area in an apartment in a dormitory, letters were sent to all dormitory residents, to refine the rules of living in them.

A complaint by four female students against a student at Ariel University who committed indecent acts on them during performances was dealt with relatively severely by the university.

According to the report, there appeared to be an even greater number of casualties than the four who complained.

The student was expelled from school for two years and was required to undergo professional treatment as a condition of his return to school.
