Munich holiday accommodation during the Oktoberfest is rare - and more expensive than ever.

Nevertheless, visitors to the Oktoberfest 2022 should already start planning their Wiesn trip - especially those from abroad.

indicates, only a quarter of the holiday accommodations in Munich are still available during the Oktoberfest (as of May 18th).
The fact that people are longing for the Oktoberfest after two years of Corona is not only evident from the largely reserved tables in the marquee.
It is also reflected in the prices: In addition to the beer, the accommodation has become enormously expensive compared to the last Oktoberfest in 2019.
So you have to spend around 34 percent more for an overnight stay this year.
Incidentally, with the start of the Wiesn, overnight stays in Munich suddenly become more expensive - by a whole 70 percent.
Accommodation during Oktoberfest 2022: save with these tips
In order to save a bit on the wallet, it is therefore advisable to consider alternatives.
For example, there can be a significant price difference if you look for holiday apartments or houses in the Munich area and take public transport to the Oktoberfest.

You can save with an overnight stay in Dachau or the district of Feldmoching, both of which have an S-Bahn connection to downtown Munich.

, you pay 49 euros per person per night in Dachau and 69 euros in Feldmoching.
For comparison: In the center, a holiday accommodation costs a whopping 125 euros per person and night.
Inexpensive accommodation alternative: camping in and around Munich
Those who are also satisfied with simpler accommodation can set up camp at one of the many campsites in and around Munich.
There are numerous contact points for travelers with a mobile home as well as those who are camping.
An advantage of this type of overnight stay is definitely that the Oktoberfest trip can be combined with a trip to the beautiful Bavarian nature.
After all, dozens of campsites have settled on the lakes near Munich - such as Ammersee, Starnberger See or Chiemsee.
Most also have good connections to the Isar metropolis.
At the Oktoberfest 2022 in the hotel: With these tips you save on the overnight stay
A hotel room is the much more luxurious variant of a place to sleep during the Wiesn.
Of course, the best way to save is to book early: if you book in January, you get the lowest prices.
It's been around for a long time, but you can still save.
For example, the room prices from Sunday to Monday are cheaper than on the expensive weekend.
This also bypasses the bookings of business travelers, who usually only arrive during the week.

The prices for hotel rooms are usually lower on the last Oktoberfest weekend.
The overnight price on the last Oktoberfest day, i.e. October 3rd, 2022, is usually cheaper than the days before.
On the other hand, you should avoid the weekend in the middle of the Wiesn, the so-called Italian weekend.
In particular, the night from Friday to Saturday is considered the most expensive Oktoberfest night.
Cheap alternative: sleeping in a hostel or youth hostel
Frequent travelers and low-budget tourists are familiar with the cheaper alternative to hotels: hostels.
Both individuals and groups have the chance of a cheap bed in the shared dormitories.
An advantage of the accommodations is that they are usually located near the city center.
It can also be worth taking a look at what Munich youth hostels have to offer.
Overnight stays with private individuals - a critical concept?
Many Munich residents want to escape the hustle and bustle of the Oktoberfest and rent out their homes to Oktoberfest visitors during this time.
Such private accommodations can be found on Internet portals such as Airbnb or Wimdu - and often offer a cheap alternative to commercial holiday apartments, especially for groups.
However, there is also a lot of criticism for this concept of accommodation rental.
After all, the already tense rental market in Munich is further aggravated when landlords make their apartments available to tourists instead of locals.
That is why the city intervenes and takes consistent action against the illegal misappropriation of living space.
However, renting out your own four walls for a short period of time during the Oktoberfest is not a problem: accommodation in Munich is only banned for a period of eight weeks or more.
