It was closed for two years and can now be visited again: the Stallhofer Museum in the Staudenhäusl in Agatharied.

Significantly involved: the Hausham culture officer.

Agatharied

– To admire a painting by Josef Stallhofer, Elisabeth Leidgschwendner need only visit her twin sister.

Not just one of the numerous works by the well-known Hausham artist hangs there, but one that couldn't be more personal.

"He painted us when we were 14," says the current culture officer for the community of Hausham.

Later she agreed with her sister that they would share the portrait – every ten years.

"Quasi a temporary exhibition," says Leidgschwendner and laughs.

On the other hand, the culture officer made a permanent exhibition accessible to the public again on Sunday in the presence of Mayor Jens Zangenfeind, some local councilors and her predecessor Hubert Lacrots: the Stallhofer Museum on the upper floor of the Gasthof Staudenhäusl in Agatharied.

A special moment, as the rooms had been closed for a good two years.

Now they shine in new splendor.

Whether floors, walls or lighting: the building yard tackled the renovation efficiently, reports Leidgschwendner: "One thing led to another.

Everyone has really worked their way into it.”

Extensive renovation

After completing the manual part, the culture officer rehung the works with the support of the former community archivist Veronika Gmeiner and culture group member and painter Rita Höhlein.

Grouped by topics such as church, marksmen, music or the towns of Hausham and Agatharied.

The mayor thinks that the effort was justified.

As an honorary citizen of the community, Josef Stallhofer is still of great importance to the people of Hausham.

"He belonged to many clubs and always had an open ear for their concerns." Zangenfeind characterizes the artist as "always helpful, very modest, straightforward and honest".

He was inspired by love and loyalty to his Bavarian homeland, which he enriched with his wonderful works of art.

Culture officer looks after the museum

For the past 13 years, Georgine Konrad has been responsible for ensuring that his large legacy is honored and presented in a dignified manner.

But since the honorary museum director had to leave the museum for health reasons, Leidgschwendner is now taking on this job herself for the time being.

Every first Saturday of the month, from 3 to 6 p.m., she will welcome visitors to the museum and, if they are interested, tell them something about the exhibits.

As the culture officer emphasizes, special tours for groups or school classes are also available on request.

In view of Stallhofer's creative work, there is certainly no lack of exhibits in the renovated museum.

Nevertheless, Leidgschwendner would still like an additional object: the flag designed by the artist from 1927, which was stolen in 2017 and has not been found since.

The culture officer is hoping for the conscience of the thief or of anyone who may have come into possession of the historical piece.

"The flag is best kept in our museum." And thanks to the renovation, it would now shine in a very special light.
