Will Schleswig-Holstein's coalition continue or will there be a two-party alliance in the north in the future?

The CDU, Greens and FDP are exploring opportunities for a new version of the tripartite alliance.

The Greens in particular are skeptical.

Kiel - Eleven days after the state elections, the search for the future governing coalition in Schleswig-Holstein continues.

On Thursday, the CDU, Greens and FDP explored the chances of the tripartite alliance continuing.

"I think we agree on many goals that we also have for the next five years," said Minister President Daniel Günther before the start of the exploratory talks in a hotel in Kiel.

The alliance has been working in a spirit of trust for five years, and there are many good arguments for continuing.

Before the start of the meeting, the Greens in particular were reticent.

"Today we are much more skeptical about the talks than in the black-green exploratory talks, you have to say that openly and honestly," said co-lead candidate Aminata Touré.

She wanted to hear what the common positions were and where there were differences.

It is enough for black-green in terms of numbers and content: "And that's why the question now is: why does a Jamaica alliance need it?"

Top candidate Monika Heinold said a stable majority was needed.

"It's about issues, it's about climate protection, but it's also about social justice." The voters had chosen a stable two-thirds majority for the CDU and Greens.

"The question is: Why do you need a third partner?"

On the other hand, FDP country chief Heiner Garg was “positive and relaxed”.

One explores whether there is a viable basis for the next five years.

Otherwise, the preference of the liberals is further: "There is also a clear alternative in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament with a majority for black and yellow." The three-way alliance worked well because of the eye level.

On Thursday, Annabell Krämer, member of the state parliament, took part in the probing for the FDP alongside top candidate Bernd Buchholz and parliamentary group leader Christopher Vogt.

"Wolfgang Kubicki has no time today," said Buchholz.

The high level of approval for the three-way alliance is not solely due to Günther's popularity.

The other ministers did the same.

"I claim that for us too."

The CDU would only have a secure majority in the state parliament with the Greens or the FDP.

On Tuesday, a team of four from the CDU led by Günther spoke separately with the leaders of both parties - for five hours with the Greens and two hours with the FDP.

Both smaller partners prefer a two-party coalition with the Union, but are willing to talk beyond that.

"It's also okay to mark things out at the beginning," said Günther.

He justified his course with the high reputation of the coalition in the population.

In the state elections on May 8, the CDU and the Greens had improved significantly with 18.3 percent, while the FDP, after heavy losses, only managed 6.4 percent.
