The renewed blocking of the Dietramszell through road for a few months deters many customers.

Business people criticize the signage

Dietramszell

– The through road in Dietramszell was already closed in the summer months in 2019.

Then Corona came - and now the state road along the monastery is being renewed.

Again, it is not possible to get through the town in a north-south direction.

Some of the surrounding businesses are hit hard.

"We have a huge damage from it," says Florian Guggenbichler from the Klosterschänke inn.

About 30 percent fewer guests would come, according to his estimates a good three weeks after the start of the road construction work.

The inn usually attracts visitors from all over the area - from Munich, Bad Tölz, Miesbach and Weilheim, says the head chef and owner.

"But the sign 'Dietramszell through road closed' that is everywhere keeps many people from driving here." An experience shared by Johanna Peiß from the Gasthof Peiß, located to the north of the construction site.

She also notices that the guests have stayed away since the full lockdown began.

We are missing through traffic in the direction of Tölz.

Petra Illner from the forget-me-not flower shop.

"We don't have through traffic in the direction of Tölz," complains Petra Illner from the forget-me-not flower shop.

Commuters would bypass Dietramszell on a large scale and would no longer be able to get past their business.

“As a result, we have massive losses.” She has around a third fewer customers.

What particularly annoys her: "Actually, we were promised traffic lights at the beginning." Instead, the passage is completely sealed.

Stephanie Laus is also surprised by this change of plan – and annoyed.

In her ice cream parlor on Richteranger, customers stay away, especially at the weekend.

"The entire excursion traffic to the mountains is gone," she says.

Even many cyclists are apparently deterred by the closure.

During the week, on the other hand, business is good, "school children are my main customers".

Even if you want to buy rolls, pretzels or pastries at the Schmid-Bäck' next door, you now have to walk a few meters.

Although the bakery branch is practically in the middle of the construction site, Managing Director Ludwig Schmid has only noticed a small drop in sales so far.

"If it stays that way, I would be satisfied." However, he fears that this could change as the construction work progresses.

The Untermühltaler Holzmarkt Suttner is not dependent on passing customers.

Owner Hans Benno Suttner does not see any major disadvantages for his business from the blocking of the through-road, but there is another danger: “Some of the large trucks that deliver to us now drive on roads that are only 3.50 meters wide.

If there is oncoming traffic, it can quickly become dangerous.” He would like the route to Holzkirchen to be open to heavy goods traffic, at least during the road construction work.

All those affected agree that the detour signs are of little help.

Because those unfamiliar with the area find it difficult to find the access options - although all the companies are accessible.

Those who know their way around the roadblock via Thankkirchchen or Ried and Osten.

Depending on the destination, this is a detour of around two to three kilometers.

The problem: These routes are not officially signposted.

A few companies, such as the Klosterschänke or the Suttner company, have now marked their own routes.

"Our goal is to keep through traffic away," explains Stefan Vogt, the responsible department head at the State Building Authority in Weilheim.

Therefore, the traffic will be diverted very extensively in the direction of Bad Tölz: from the north via Endlhausen and Egling, from Holzkirchen via the B13.

"Unfortunately, there is nothing better in this very rural area with a sufficiently wide lane." A traffic light solution, as used during the first construction phase in 2019, is not officially planned.

However, he keeps this option in the back of his mind as “Plan B” – “in order to be able to handle the remaining source traffic in the construction site better”.

However, the major diversion remains unaffected.

Vogt can give the people of Dietramszell little hope that the traffic obstructions will end soon.

According to the schedule, four months are planned for the construction work along the monastery.

According to Vogt, the full closure south of the junction to Holzkirchen is expected to be set up in the middle of the year.

Towards the north, the path through the town should then be freely passable again.

At the same time, however, the municipal construction measures in the area of the sidewalks and side surfaces are taking place.

It will continue in spring 2023: Then the section of the state road to Holzkirchen will be renovated.

For the monastery tavern and many other businesses in Dietramszell, this is the fifth year in a row with serious operational restrictions.

Guggenbichler fears that this last phase of construction will be the hardest for him: "The construction site is right on our doorstep."

If everything goes according to plan, the road work should be completed by the middle of next year, says building official Vogt.

If delivery bottlenecks don't delay the construction progress again - as they did with the start of the work.
