India is considered to be one of the automotive markets with the greatest growth potential.
Now VW is planning to supply its electric car platforms to an Indian manufacturer.
Wolfsburg/Mumbai - Volkswagen intends to supply its drive and battery platforms for electric cars to an Indian manufacturer in the future.
By the end of this year, a “binding contract” should be in place with the carmaker Mahindra, both partners announced on Thursday.
A first cooperation agreement has already been concluded.
It's about assemblies such as electric drives, battery systems and soon possibly also its own battery cells, which Volkswagen manufactures in its internal component plants.
The modular electrical construction kit (MEB) is already being used in several of the Group's electric models.
However, it is designed as an open system that other manufacturers can use to some extent.
For example, the US company Ford wants to build at least two electric vehicles based on the MEB from VW.

India is considered to be one of the car markets with the greatest growth potential, but so far it has mainly been with combustion engines.
In the emerging country with around 1.4 billion inhabitants, only zero-emission vehicles are to be newly registered from the mid-2030s.
