The Executive Council recently discussed the building expansion project behind closed doors. The news pointed out that since the Legislative Council must continue to meet during the construction period, the project will need to be carried out at night for the next three years to ensure that members can meet in a safe environment during the day. At the same time, another set of Mechanical and electrical, coupled with factors such as rising construction costs, require an additional project of about $400 million. The relevant agenda has been included in the agenda of the Legislative Council Public Works Subcommittee next Friday.
In response to the new electoral system, the number of members of the Legislative Council has increased from 70 to 90, and additional office space has to be expanded. There will be additional floors on the top floor of the high block, the entrance area on the ground floor and the terrace on the first floor facing Tim Mei Avenue. The project will be completed within 3 years.
The Architectural Services Department previously estimated the cost of the project at $1.17 billion, and the relevant funding was approved by the Finance Committee in September last year.
