Dangerous weather conditions in Germany: The German weather service DWD warns of severe storms on Thursday and Friday.
Heavy heavy rain, large hail and occasional hurricane gusts (110 km/h): A line of thunderstorms is moving from the north-west over Germany.
Tornado danger: Supercells can form, especially on Friday.
Storm gusts reach hurricane strength of up to 120 km/h.

The first severe thunderstorms will appear in the west and north-west during the course of the day.
The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of heavy thunderstorms with
heavy rain
(up to 40 liters per square meter in a short time),
hail
(up to three centimeters) and sometimes heavy gusts of wind or
hurricane-force gusts
(around 120 km/h).
Severe weather alert in Germany: thunderstorm with large hail and "tornado potential"
In the early afternoon (from 2 p.m.), the DWD weather experts expect the first severe thunderstorms in the west.
A preliminary information "on a weather situation with high storm potential" is out.
The DWD expressly points out that thunderstorms, with the side effects mentioned, typically occur very locally and would usually only hit a few places at full intensity.
After a brief calming of the weather, severe storms threaten again on Friday.
In the evening, heavy thunderstorms can also be expected in central Germany.
The DWD does not rule out tornadoes on Friday either.
Extreme storm conditions threaten on Friday
“There is a risk of extreme storms, especially on Friday.
The weather models are presenting us with maps that even we, as experienced meteorologists, rarely see,” admits meteorologist Lars Dahlstrom in a video from
wetterkanal.kachelmannwetter.com.
A thunderstorm from Belgium is approaching and its center is moving from west to east over Germany.
Thunderstorm clusters with heavy rain, hurricane gusts and large hail could develop.
Tornado danger is also increased.
In the humid to hot air mass, the thunderstorm potential increases significantly, emphasizes meteorologist Dominik Jung from
wetter.net
.
"On Friday, super cells could form just above and around North Rhine-Westphalia," said the weather expert.
Supercells are a combination of several thunderstorm cells into one large one.
This could then lead to hurricane gusts, violent flash floods and large hail.
"This could develop in a similar way to the devastating Whitsun storm in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2014," fears meteorologist Jung.
Some details would indicate this, but it cannot be concluded yet.
In his opinion, there is also increased potential for supercells around the Ahr Valley in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Heavy rain could lead to flooding, Jung warns.
However, the weather situation is not comparable to that of July 2021, which led to the flood disaster.
At that time it was a huge band of heavy rain that could have been estimated four days earlier.
"This situation is a classic thunderstorm situation that can bring local storms, so it will not be an extensive event like the flood disaster in June last year," emphasizes weather expert Jung.
