Two freight trains collided on the Aschaffenburg-Dieburg railway line.
This was confirmed by a spokesman for the federal police.
Contrary to what was initially reported, it was the goods train that had derailed.
According to initial findings, a second train is said to have been on the tracks, as reported by op-online.de.
The driver of the derailed train was trapped and died at the scene of the accident.
Fire brigade and police are currently deployed with a large contingent on the railway line between Dieburg and Babenhausen.
