ANALYSIS – Some municipalities historically classified on the left have seen Marine Le Pen rise to the top of the ballot. A first in this corner of France of Christian-Democratic and Social-Democratic tradition.


The town of Évron, in Mayenne, is the capital of a canton of more than 20,000 inhabitants.

It is home to two large agrifood companies that provide more than a thousand jobs, Socopa and Bel, and its population voted overwhelmingly for Emmanuel Macron in the second round of the presidential election.

This is far from being the case for the smaller municipalities that surround it.

Some, historically classified on the left, saw Marine Le Pen rise to the top of the ballot.

A first in this historically centrist corner of France, of Christian Democrat and Social Democratic tradition.
