The former prime minister and current political head of the Five Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, demanded a new parliamentary vote on the decision to send arms to Ukraine, reaffirming his refusal to send arms to Kiev.
The Italian Aki news agency quoted Conte, who recently announced the movement's refusal to send a new batch of arms to Ukraine, as saying on the sidelines of an economic event. There is a parliamentary decision, and this is what Prime Minister Mario Draghi said, but the matter was voted on in Parliament at the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis, and it is correct to update it.
Referring to the Prime Minister's briefing to the Senate today on the developments of the Ukrainian crisis, Conte said, "Draghi gave us a reading of the events that concern us and information on all issues," calling for an ongoing parliamentary debate on the war.
Conte had recently said: The Five Star Movement confirms its position.. Italy should not provide Kyiv with more weapons, noting that Italy has already provided three batches of weapons to Ukraine since the 24th of last February.
The Secretary-General of the Italian League, Matteo Salvini, also considered that sending more weapons to Ukraine delays the chances of reaching peace between Moscow and Kiev and creates death across the border.
