Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev confirmed that the US obstruction of his country in the issue of repaying its debts will not affect Russia's financial reputation.
Medvedev said on his Telegram channel, "The imposition of a possible ban on Russia to block the process of repaying its debts in foreign currencies will not affect its real financial reputation, as Russia is able to pay its obligations in any currency unless artificial problems are created for it."
Medvedev's statement came as a comment on Washington's intention not to extend the license that allows servicing Russia's sovereign debt under sanctions after May 25, the expiry date of the US Treasury's permit allowing foreign investors to receive money paid by Russia under Eurobonds.
"It must be remembered that such actions of the United States that create technical obstacles to the fulfillment of obligations must be considered by the court as either force majeure or the guilty behavior of the creditor," Medvedev added.
The Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov announced yesterday that his country has sufficient funds to meet its financial obligations and said that Russia does not intend to default on the public debt.
