When Rainer Maria Schiessler gives a lecture in a church, the church is usually well attended - better than at a conventional service.

Dachau –

This was presented by the new parish council chairman of Heilig Kreuz, Dr.

Gerhard Haszprunar, who welcomed the well-known Munich pastor and author in front of 200 visitors.

Pastor Schiessler does not mince his words in Heilig Kreuz in Dachau

Rainer Maria Schiessler (60) came to Dachau at the invitation of the adult education working group as part of the "Fridays at 5" lecture series.

"It's not going as well for us as it does for you," Schiessler, who looks after the Munich parish of St. Maximilian, replied to Haszprunar's statement that normally fewer than 200 people come to the masses in Heilig Kreuz.

His level of fame alone ensures that many people come to his services, including some who do not belong to St. Maximilian, according to the popular pastor.

One of the things that Schiessler made famous is his podcast “Schießlers Woche” on the Internet, which is followed by around 30,000 listeners.

"Schießlers Woche" runs online on Spotify every Saturday from 8 a.m.

The priest also has 15,000 followers on Facebook.

And then there are his television appearances, including as vicar general in “Dahoam is dahoam”, and his book publications.

All of this has made Rainer Maria Schiessler a well-known personality that you just want to experience live.

Schiessler has a connection to the district of Dachau

And now the people of Dachau had the opportunity to see Schiessler in action in Heilig Kreuz.

Speaking of Dachau: "It's my second home," said Schiessler, who as a child visited friends in Webling and relatives in Schönbrunn.

He also knows Heilig-Kreuz-Pastor Heinrich Denk personally.

Schiessler's lectures take him all over Germany.

His goal is not to be popular, but simply to reach people and inspire them for a "God who loves and does not punish".

He himself has experienced God in this way, and of course he also knows that not all Catholics feel the same way as he does.

But he doesn't want these people to turn their backs on the Church either.

“Appearing instead of leaving”, inspire others to believe, carry them away, sometimes go unconventional paths in the church, that’s what Schiessler does.

Despite his popularity, he remained a simple pastor

In spite of his popularity, Schiessler has remained the simple pastor you can talk to, who has an open ear for everyone.

Visitors to Heilig Kreuz could experience that.

He uses first names, signs books, shakes hands – without airs, without fear of contact.

He also does not want to earn anything from his books, television appearances and lectures.

All of the income ends up in his foundation for children from underprivileged backgrounds.

Pastor Schiessler has never been afraid of the authorities.

He talks like his mouth has grown.

Also about celibacy, which he believes should be voluntary.

Human, honest, humorous and with an enthusiasm for God that carried away the almost 200 people present in the Dachau church.

But who then flinch when the Munich pastor speaks of impending church closures: According to Schiessler, his parish of St. Maximilian will be one of the first.
