Petition to the High Court against Ganz and Bennett: Approve the Terrorist Salary Report | Israel today

2022-05-19T05:03:00.290Z

According to Defense Ministry sources, it is Prime Minister Bennett who is delaying the approval of the report in the cabinet, which was prepared many months ago.

A number of extra-parliamentary organizations are expected to petition the High Court today (Thursday) against Prime Minister Bennett and Defense Minister Bnei Gantz, demanding that the Cabinet approve the 2021 terrorist salary report.

The writing of the report by the National Economic War on Terrorism Headquarters at the Ministry of Defense was completed many months ago.

According to Defense Ministry sources, it is Prime Minister Bennett who is delaying the approval of the report in the Cabinet.

The Bennett bureau confirms that the report is ready and is expected to be submitted to the cabinet for approval soon, but in practice this does not happen.

In order to force Bennett and Gantz to approve the report, the organizations Lavi, the "Voters' Forum in Life", the parents of the late Captain Shir Hajaj - Herzl and Meirav Hajaj, and the "If You Will" and "Forum" organizations claim "Law for Israel," because Bennett and Gantz "grossly violate the provisions of the law freezing funds paid by the Palestinian Authority in connection with terrorism from the funds transferred to it from the Israeli government."

According to the law, which was passed in the Knesset with the support of both the right and the left, Israel will deduct from the tax money it collects for the Palestinians, an amount equal to all the terrorist allowances it pays to terrorists or their families.

In previous years, the amount was about NIS 600 million.

According to the petitioners, represented by attorney Yitzhak Bam, "the defense minister is thwarting an explicit Knesset law designed to fight terrorism and terrorist financing. Every year the PA pays salaries and benefits to terrorists and their families in the amount of half a billion shekels.

Under the law, there is an absolute obligation to offset and freeze this amount from the tax payments that Israel transfers.

"The defense minister's failure allows the PA to continue to accept the funds that were supposed to be frozen and pay them to the terrorists. This is because of the defense minister's failure, Israel continues to help the PA finance the terrorism directed against it."

A forum for choosing the lives of bereaved families and victims of terrorism: "The offsetting law is intended to deter terrorism and save lives, but unfortunately the government chooses to break the laws for political reasons."

The If You Will movement added: "It is shocking that the same people who pushed for and helped lead the law on offsetting terrorist money are now acting as if it were a dead letter. Where is the Minister of the Interior, Bar Lev, who signed the law?

Where is Prime Minister Bennett who was proud as defense minister of offsetting the funds? The current conduct of the Israeli government allows Abbas' PA to pay a salary without charging a price.

No wonder Arab terrorism is rampant! "

Yesterday it was reported in "Israel Today" that the chairman of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Ram Ben Barak, rejected for the third time a request by a number of MKs to discuss the issue in his committee.
