MK Jida Rinawi Zoabi of Meretz announced today (Thursday) that she is resigning from the coalition following what she defines as "the coalition leaders' preference to preserve and strengthen its right-wing side." Only, and its opponents have a majority in the Knesset.
The coalition leaders as well as Zoabi's party were very surprised by her announcement.
They said they heard about her from the media after she sent the letter in which she was retiring.

MK Zoabi wrote in a letter to Bennett: "Unfortunately, in recent months and out of narrow considerations of politics, the coalition leaders have preferred to preserve and strengthen its right-wing side.
Again and again, the coalition leaders preferred to take hawkish, rigid and right-wing positions on extremely important basic issues for the whole of Arab society - al-Aqsa and the Temple Mount, Sheikh Jarrah, the settlement and occupation plant, house destruction and land expropriation in Arab communities in the Negev, and of course the Citizenship Law.
"I encountered complete opacity towards the real needs of the Arab localities with an emphasis on the areas of local authority development, housing issues, employment and education."
