Senior Inspector Weng Ganlun of the Marine Police Waterboat Division said that at 11:50 last night, officers from the Small Boat Division found a suspicious speedboat entering Hong Kong waters from the west of the sandbar, and immediately notified the police boat patrolling nearby to intercept it and asked to drive the suspicious speedboat The man stopped the boat to investigate, but the man turned around and left, heading for inland waters at high speed.

The police seized 17 cages containing cats and dogs on the speedboat. The preliminary count contained 136 cats and dogs, including 16 cats in a plastic cage. The environment was crowded, like a sardine.
Weng Ganlun said that "the cats and dogs in the cage were very panicked and scared." Afterwards, the staff of the Animal Association of the Chinese Love Association came to the scene to deal with it. After preliminary inspection, it was confirmed that all of them were OK.
The police arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of exporting unmanifested goods, cruelty to animals, refusing to suspend sailing and endangering the safety of others at sea The District Crime Squad and the Joint Maritime Task Force of the Customs will follow up.
Afterwards, the batch of smuggled animals was sent to the AFCD and the Society for the Protection of Animals for inspection and care. After further counting, there were 160 smuggled animals in this batch, including 113 cats, 46 dogs and 1 rabbit.
