Rome-Stockholm-Sana
The health authorities in both Sweden and Italy announced today the registration of the first confirmed infection with the deadly monkeypox virus in both countries.
And the Swedish Public Health Agency said in a statement carried by the French Press Agency: One person in the Stockholm region has been confirmed to be infected with monkeypox, explaining that the infected person is not seriously ill, but has been provided with care.
Clara Sundin, an infectious disease doctor and investigator at the agency, said that we still do not know where the person was infected with the virus. An investigation is currently underway.
For its part, the health authorities in Italy announced the registration of the first case of HIV infection in Spallanzani Hospital in Rome, noting that the person who arrived after his stay in the Canary Islands remained in isolation.
The rare disease usually presents with fever, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, chills, fatigue, and rashes on the hands and face.
The EU agency, which said it is closely monitoring the situation, recommends that suspected cases should be immediately isolated, tested and reported.
Dozens of suspected or confirmed cases of monkeypox have been discovered since the beginning of May in Europe and North America, which raised fears of the disease starting to spread.
