The principal of the Tel Aviv High School, Ram Cohen, is considered a man who spoke out strongly against the conduct of IDF soldiers and political issues. • In his retirement letter, he wrote that "next year I will go on a sabbatical in Boston with my wife and children.

"My work has reached maturity":

The principal of the "Tichont" school in Tel Aviv, Ram Cohen, who previously spoke out against the conduct of IDF soldiers and expressed his opinion on political issues, announced today (Thursday) his resignation.

"Eleven years ago, the mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Ron Huldai, suggested that I establish an innovative high school in the city," Cohen wrote.

"I was given a year to plan a school and make a dream come true. It was a difficult year in which I had to plan the pedagogical concept, the technological idea that would support it, and the main direction I thought I should take."

Cohen noted that his family intends to leave for the US: “After 10 years in high school management I decided to end my job.

Next year I will go on a sabbatical year in Boston USA with my wife and children. " And in the minds of the children there are grooves and there has been a great need in the last year to repair and improve and rebuild many things.

"I leave with a pinch in my heart, after all it is my work that has reached maturity and I release and say goodbye to it. I leave the school leadership to excellent people who have been with me for years, and of course to whoever chooses to lead the school in the future. I wish him success. I will do my best for his / her success ".

His remarks have sparked controversy

Ram Cohen is without a doubt an unconventional high school principal.

While principals walk between the drops and save criticism from the Ministry of Education, Ram Cohen never hid his views even when it established quite a bit of criticism on him.

Only recently did he speak out against Education Minister Yifat Shasha Bitton, who announced that the State of Israel would demolish terrorist homes and make administrative arrests.

On this he wrote: "I wonder in what normal country the Minister of Education is engaged in terrorism, destruction, causing suffering to innocent people, arresting suspects without trial."

He added: "I would expect the Minister of Education of the State of Israel to fight uncompromisingly. It seems that she does not understand the depth of the crisis we have been facing for several years, and this year we are breaking another record from below. Suffice it to read Next, to understand what the face of the country will look like in a decade or more. "

This is not the first time he has addressed political issues.

During the time of Education Minister Naftali Bennett, a decision was made to expel the "Breaking the Silence" organization from the schools and not to invite them to lectures.

However, despite the law's regulations prohibiting them from lecturing to students, "Breaking the Silence" gave a lecture to students at a high school in Tel Aviv, and infuriated the Ministry of Education and parents.

Criticism of Cohen was also heard from the students, who claimed that he refused to play the national anthem at the end of a ceremony in memory of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Cohen claimed in response that " This year.

"Even if I had to think about putting the anthem into the ceremony, I'm not convinced I would do it, because that anthem creates an exclusion of the Arab teacher population in a ceremony whose whole purpose is tolerance and acceptance of the other."
