The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, discussed by phone today with his American counterpart Mark Milley the latest developments in Ukraine.
And the website of the Russia Today channel quoted the Russian Ministry of Defense as saying in a statement that, during the call, which came at the initiative of the United States, the prominent military officials discussed issues of common interest, including the situation in Ukraine.
This is the first contact between Gerasimov and Mili since Russia launched its own military operation to protect Donbass on February 24.
This call also comes after a call that took place on May 13 between Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and American Lloyd Austin for the first time since the start of the war in Ukraine.
