The four Freising youth culture award winners cover very different art segments.

The daily newspaper introduces them.

District

– The winners of the Youth Culture Prize 2022 have been announced.

"This year, for the first time, the jury did not award graded rankings, but gave all prize winners equal recognition," reports Robert Stangl, spokesman for the Freising district office.

The two Freisingers Benjamin Bochinski (design) and Felix Ewald (film), the band June Calls and solo musician Lukas Matei from Neufahrn received awards.

Robert Stangl introduces the award winners:

Benjamin Bochinski, the designer

Benjamin Bochinski has been creating fashion under the name "Bochinski" for two years.

It all started with upcycling projects – creating something new out of “old” things.

Benjamin Bochinski now designs and sews his own fashion, whereby the ecological approach still plays a major role in his creations.

He uses the patchwork technique or creates new garments with bleach.

His works can be seen on his Instagram channel @boch_inski.

The jury was impressed by the creativity and skills of the 20-year-old.

The film artist Felix Ewald

Felix Ewald's great hobby are stop-motion films.

Several individual shots are taken, which are then combined into a film, giving the impression that the figures are moving.

Felix Ewald created the characters "Mouse and Snake", which he builds out of modeling clay and brings to life with the help of his films.

Both experience short stories together, in which the snake always tries to eat the mouse, but the mouse is too clever to let itself be eaten.

Felix Ewald produces very special films.

In order to be able to create a film, a lot of preparatory work is required. First of all, a story has to be thought up and a screenplay has to be written.

In the second step, the backdrops are planned and built – around twelve different backdrops may be necessary for a film.

Then the figures are created, mostly from modeling clay and wire, but also from silicone.

Then the individual scenes are shot.

Each movement has to be recorded individually so that they can then be edited together and a film can be created.

Felix Ewald composed the title melody for "Mouse and Snake" himself and recorded it with piano and violin.

The 15-year-old invests a great deal of time, skill and attention to detail to create a film.

June Calls: A band makes its way

June calls: These are Yanice Liebig (19), Lukas Eispert (17), Jakob Eberl (17) and Izabella Reichert (16).

June Calls is an up and coming indie pop band from Freising.

According to their own statement, the four want to “move people and create emotions” with their music.

The band has been releasing cover songs on YouTube since 2020 and released their first song High Tides in May 2021.

It deals with the monotonous and uncertain everyday life of young people and thus reflects the feelings of numerous young people during the corona pandemic.

In December 2021, June Calls released her second original song, The Sound.

In May 2022, the band rocked the Samma Mera at the Freising Night of Music.

Since March, Linda has enriched the now five-piece band as a keyboardist.

The young artists produce their music on their own and work passionately on new songs.

Lukas Matei, musician with passion

Born in Neufahrn, Lukas Matei alias Yung Kyuu has been making music out of passion for five years.

He's not tied to a specific genre.

His songs are inspired by his emotions, sometimes resulting in more melodic works, sometimes aggressive hip-hop.

Lukas Matei writes his lyrics himself, they deal with topics that are intended to show that nobody is alone with their problems.

He uses it to process his own bullying experiences and has found a way out of self-hatred through music.

He started rapping with friends, equipped with a Bluetooth box and YouTube beats.

In the meantime, the hobby has become a passion.

Production, release, mixing and mastering, marketing and social media - he does everything himself. Over 300,000 people listen to his music on various platforms such as Spotify and Soundcloud.

For Yung Kyuu it is important that his listeners can really feel and understand the emotions behind a piece of music.

The youth culture prize is also an incentive

The district of Freising is awarding the youth culture prize, which the Freisinger youth district day brought to life, for the tenth time this year.

With the prize, the youth group day wants to promote and appreciate the artistic activity of young people and young adults up to the age of 25 and make their work accessible to a broader public.

The winners are selected by a jury of people involved in cultural life and members of the youth council.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

This time, this included Jutta Ederer (managing director of the Pustet books), Vipo Maat (organizer of the Uferlos Festival), Wolfgang Steger (Theater04), Judith Reichert (art teacher at Camerloher Gymnasium) and Evelyn Buchberger, Amna Amjad and Noah Renkl (all members of the Freising Youth Council).

The Youth Culture Prize is endowed with a total of 1,500 euros.

Sponsors are Sparkasse Freising, Sparkasse Moosburg, Uferlos GmbH and Freisinger Bank.

Good to know

The winners have now been chosen, but the award ceremony will take place later: namely as part of the Freisinger Sommerwunder.

The date for this is Wednesday, July 27, at 6 p.m. in the district court garden in Freising.

In the event of bad weather, the event will be moved to the Vis-à-Vis youth center on Kölblstraße.
