The US Senate today approved an additional $40 billion military and economic aid package for Ukraine.
The Washington Post quoted Democratic Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer as saying during a press conference that "86 members of Congress out of 100 voted in favor of allocating these funds to the government of Ukraine, while 11 members opposed."
It is scheduled to refer this legislation, after congressional approval, to US President Joe Biden for signature, and then it will enter into force.
Congress had decided to increase the amount allocated within this package to the Kyiv government to nearly 40 billion dollars, compared to 33 billion dollars requested by Biden.
Russia has repeatedly condemned the intensive aid provided by the West, led by the United States, to the Kyiv government, warning that this leads to a prolongation of the conflict in Ukraine.
